What a typical week looks like as a Mrs Siegel play-based tutor
Core responsibilities:
The role involves providing private tutoring to students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6 across all primary subject areas, with a particular focus on literacy and mathematics.
A typical week looks like:

3x 1 hr sessions per day: 7:15-8:15, 3:30-4:30, and 4:30-5:30

Working from a dedicated teaching or play space in your home

Light communication with your students' teachers to find out what they are learning in class

Lesson planning on a Monday or throughout the week

Incorporating communication from school teachers and other support into lesson plans

Parent audio notes with child progress updates
Tutors are paid weekly based on the lessons they complete. Mrs Siegel manages all family invoicing and payment collection, so tutors can focus on teaching without the additional administration.
What does Mrs Siegel operations offer:
Mrs Siegel manages the business and administrative work involved in building and maintaining your tutoring timetable, allowing you to focus your time and energy on teaching.
This includes:

Marketing the tutoring service.

Responding to enquiries from prospective families.

Speaking with families to understand their child’s needs.

Matching you with students who suit your experience, location and availability.

Coordinating the initial introduction and tutoring arrangements.

Managing family invoicing, payment collection and follow-up.

Paying you weekly for the lessons you complete.
You gain the flexibility of private tutoring without having to continually advertise for students, manage enquiries or chase payments.
How does payment work:
Families pay $115 per session, including GST. You are paid weekly for the sessions you deliver.
For your first 22 sessions each calendar month, each $115 payment is divided as follows:

$10.45 - set aside for GST, which Mrs Siegel pays to the ATO

$23 - to Mrs Siegel as a 20% service fee

$81.55 is paid to you
We cap our fees as $506 per calendar month (22 lessons). So, from your 23rd lesson that month, we stop charging our service fee altogether. Only the GST component is deducted, so you receive approximately $104.55 per session.
As you teach more lessons, your earnings grow while our service fee stays capped. This gives you room to build a rewarding timetable at a pace that works for you, with time to give each child the care and preparation they deserve.
For example: If you have 10 lessons a week for four weeks:
For 40 sessions, families pay $4,600 in total:

If you teach 40 lessons in a month, our capped service fee comes to 11%. By comparison, many tutoring centres charge their tutors a 40% service fee per lesson.

Meet me, Katrina Siegel
I’m a Private Tutor, Advocacy Coach and mother of three, with a Masters in Teaching and a Bachelor of Communications.
I have spent a long time working in schools, both as a classroom teacher and a Learning Support Officer supporting children one-on-one, where I was trained extensively in play-based learning and saw firsthand its extraordinary impact.
Across those years, one pattern became unmistakable: progress begins with connection, and it deepens when the environment shifts to meet the child. Whether I was teaching whole classes or supporting individual learners, the greatest breakthroughs came when we understood how a child learns, not just what they struggle with.
That insight shapes everything I do now. I believe the real transformation happens when a child is genuinely seen. When their strengths, interests, and potential are recognised and nurtured rather than managed. My work is built on that belief and it guides how I support families, collaborate with teachers, and help children thrive.
